Great Plains Alliance for Computers and Writing explores New Realities in Computers and Writing Oct. 21

This year's Great Plains Alliance for Computers and Writing Conference (GPACW) takes place on Saturday, October 21st, 2017. The Department of Writing Studies at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities is hosting the 21st annual conference, this year with the theme of “New Realities in Computers and Writing.” Conference program.

This semester, my students are engaged with a design challenge project where teams will identify wicked problems related by students at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, and devise and prototype human-centered solutions for campus users. 

Dr. Lora Arduser on Medical Wearables and Patient Agency

On March 31, the Wearables Research Collaboratory hosted a Skype talk with Dr. Lora Arduser, a researcher studying the relationship between medical wearables and patient agency.

Knitting smart fabrics

Professor Julianna Abel and Graduate Research Assistant Kevin Eschen gave the Wearables Research Collaboratory a tour of their lab in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. As part of the $317 million public-private partnership called Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA), they test fabrics knitted with heat- and electricity-conducting fibers to see how the knits respond to changes in environmental conditions.
